1. Char-Broil Standard Portable Gas Grill ‌- Budget-Friendly Gas Gill

View on Amazon

The Char-Broil Standard Portable Gas Grill features an 11,000 BTU burner to heat a 187 square inches of cooking area. The surface grate is chrome-plated, making it easy to clean and dishwasher-safe.

To carry it anywhere you go, you need to fold the legs over the top of the grill, so the lid is secured. The handle is designed to resist heat, so you won’t have to wait for it to cool down to move it.

Manufacturers have ensured that they use quality steel to make it durable. The high-temperature finish is also a great extra to help prevent rust and allow this product to last longer with you.

Some users complain about the product not producing their desired heat. Also, it would have been great if this product can offer a bigger cooking space so you can prepare a meal for more people.

Pros Cons
+ Compact, toolbox design
+ Light
+ Foldable Legs
+ Ease of transport
+ Heat-Resistant handle
+ Rust-Resistant
– Not generating enough heat
– Limited cooking space

2. Cuisinart CCG-190RB Portable Charcoal Grill – Budget-Friendly Charcoal Grill

View on Amazon

The Cuisinart CCG-190RB Charcoal Grill weighs only 2lbs, making it super light and super easy to carry anywhere you go. The size easily fits into the trunk of your car, and the lid locks perfectly in place so you won’t have any problems in maneuvering it.

It features 150 square inches of cooking space, which is enough to prepare a meal for a few people. The cooking grate is chrome plated, which allows for even and efficient heat distribution. The result of this is a beautifully cooked meat.

With the dual venting system, you can manage the charcoal easily; thus, more temperature control.

For safety, the Cuisinart CCG-190RB features a durable enamel-coated firebox and a mess-free ash catcher. This way, you can ensure that you won’t be leaving any footprint while you grill.

It’s nice that the Cuisinart CCG-190RB only weighs 2Lbs and very easy to assemble. However, these exact features make the product flimsy. In windy weather, you should position it somewhere it wouldn’t topple over.

Pros Cons
+ Comes at an affordable price
+ Lightweight
+ Easy to Assemble
+ The lid can be clipped shut
– Not so sturdy
– Grate is unstable
– Non Removable legs (which could have been perfect for storage)

3. Coleman RoadTrip LXE Portable Gas Grill – Best High-Quality Gas Grill

View on Amazon

The Propane Grill from Coleman RoadTrip delivers a 20,000 BTU of heat across 285 square inches of cooking space. That’s an ample cooking space to prepare a meal for a few people.

Despite being small, this gas grill features two burners that you can control independently from each other. This way, you can cook meat from one burner and make side dishes on the other. Or, you can use one burner to prepare your patties while you toast buns on the other. It saves you a lot of time.

The sliding side tables are also lovable. This way, you can place your tools on the side within your reach, or you can put your beer there so you can drink while you cook.

The cooking grates are made of porcelain-coated cast iron, which makes them easy to clean and durable. With this, you can ensure that the distribution of heat is even, and meat is cooked beautifully without it sticking to the surface.

It comes with a collapsible stand and wheels. If you need to move it from one place to another, you need to fold it down. The best part is, it is compact when folded and fits most car trunks.

A 1-pound propane canister fuels this product. However, if that’s not enough, you can also attach a 20-pound refillable tank. You need to purchase a compatible hose and adapter for it.

Though an excellent product, and probably considered as one of the best, there we saw two drawbacks to the Coleman RoadTrip LXE.

The first and the biggest drawback is the fact that you cannot grill with the grill cover closed. Some users have complained that the handle melted because they did this. It’s also a big con that there’s no fine print about this.

And since you cannot grill with the cover, it would take a longer time for the meat to cook, and thus, more propane gas will be used.

The second drawback is that the collapsible legs cannot be locked, and it easily dislodges. Though a great feature, especially with regards to storage, it’s not safe if it accidentally removes while you’re cooking.

Pros Cons
+ 2 independent burners
+ Large Enough Cooking Space
+ 2 Sliding Side Tables
+ Collapsible
– Use too much propane
– Collapsible legs can’t be locked

4. Weber 121020 Go-Anywhere – Best in Portability

View on Amazon

The Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill is designed to be compact and light so you can easily carry it anywhere you go. The lid locks and comes with carrying handles for easy portability.

The best thing about this grill is though it is compact to fit in your trunk easily, the 160 square inches cooking area is still large enough to feed 2-3 people.

The cooking grate is made with durable plated steel that is good for heat retention and makes it easy to clean.

The porcelain-coated lid and base are also able to retain heat and will prevent this product from rusting. This way, you can ensure that it will last long with you.

So far, the one drawback we saw on this product is the quality of its handles, especially the plastic ones. Users have complained that they get too hot to touch and can cause burns. Another thing is that the cooking grates are not deep enough, and it would have been nice if it’s height adjustable.

Pros Cons
+ Durable
+ Easy to carry and set-up
+ Foldable Legs
+ Easy transport and storage
– Cooking grate height not adjustable
– Poor quality handles

‌5. Fire Sense Notebook Charcoal Grill – Best Design

View on Amazon

The Fire Sense Notebook Charcoal Grill features an easy assemble with its 2-step setup. As its name goes, it can fold flat into 1-inch like a notebook for easy transport.

Its design is unlike any other grillers. And though it is foldable to 1 inch, it opens up to offer a 228 square inches of cooking area. This room is large enough for you to cook a meal for a few people.

In terms of quality, the whole structure is constructed with a high heat resistant painted steel, making it durable and last long for years.

The biggest downside of this product is the fact that it has minimal features, probably because manufacturers have made it as portable as possible.

There’s no way to control the temperature of the fire or even an ashtray so that you would have mess-free cooking. It also needs to be cooled down first before you can move it.

Pros Cons
+ Superior portability
+ Durable material
+ Easy to setup
+ Cooks well at high heat
– Limited Features

This size is enough for you to grill 8-12 burgers that you can share with friends.

The Char-Broil TRU-Infrared Patio Bistro Gas Grill wouldn’t place last when it comes to maneuverability. This product comes with wheels so you can quickly transfer it from one area to another.

One downside to the product is that its complicated assembly process. It doesn’t also have extra room for food preparation or storage for tools. It would have been added convenience if you can have easy access to everything you need.

Users have also complained about how fast the temperature drops once you open the grill. This causes such inconvenience as it will take a longer time for the meat to cook. With that in mind, you should estimate the cooking time well—no need to open the grill every 2 minutes to save yourself from the hassle.

Pros Cons
+ Small footprint
+ TRU-Infrared System
+ Hollow space below the grill for the propane tank

– The temperature drops once the grill is opened

The bowl and lid are porcelain-coated so it can retain heat and won’t rust or peel. It’s the best way to ensure that this product will last longer, even with continuous use.

It also features an aluminum ash catcher to ensure that you don’t leave any dirt on the ground while you cook. The handle also comes with a heat shield so you can avoid possible burn injuries.

Just like any Weber product, this is a great buy. The only drawback we’re seeing is the limited space under the lid. If you want to use this to cook a whole chicken, then you should find an alternative as this is designed for food like burgers and sausages.

Pros Cons
+ Small, lightweight, and portable
+ Easy to assemble
+ Ash catcher
+ Heavy gauge steel charcoal grate

Factors to consider when choosing a small griller

Other than choosing which type of grill you would need, here are other factors you need to consider:

Size

The size can either refer to the footprint of the grill or the cooking area. Some grillers, though small, tend to have a wider footprint than the others.

The cooking area, on the other hand, determines how many dishes you can prepare. The smaller the cooking area means you can only prepare for a few people. If you would like to make for more, you would need to cook more batches.

There are small grills that can prepare a meal for 2-3 persons, while some can prepare for 3-6 persons. It depends on the specifications.

Burners

If you’re opting for a gas grill, then it’s best to consider the number of burners. Technically, small gas grills can only accommodate up to two burners, but this is much better than having only one. With two burners, you have more control and versatility in your cooking.

Portability

Small grillers are best known for their portability. They tend to be lightweight and compact, so it is easier to transfer from one place to another.

Choosing the portability is based on your preferred convenience. Some might love a griller that comes with wheels because it’s more convenient for them, while others would only prefer grillers that they can easily carry by hand.

Budget

Last but not least, the budget. Technically, small grillers price less than their full-size counterparts, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot set a budget. You don’t have to buy a griller worth $100 just because it seems cheap when there’s a grill that fits your needs at the price of $50.

Final words

Based on the price to quality ratio, the Cuisinart CGG-200 Tabletop Gas Grill is the best small gas grill in the overall.

It is of high quality, excellent portability, and has all the necessary features you need in a griller. It offers a bigger cooking space and comes with stainless steel shelves for extra room for preparation. The windy weather downside can be solved easily if you place it in an area that covers the wind. This way, it will provide you the best grilling experience.
